ACHIEVEMENTS 2005 In December 2005, the team took part in its first tournament (albeit a small friendly one) and came in second out of three teams. Unbeknowns to everyone there that day, this was a sign of what greater accomplishments lay in the wait for this team from Istanbul. 2006
2006 proved to be an awarding year for the team, and it took part in the the Turkish Professional Paintball League (TPPL) as well as attending one leg of the Centurio European Paintball League. The team didn't even make its past the preliminary elimination round during the first leg of the 2006 TPPL season (in Istanbul) due to the disadvantages of being a major part of the league organization. Following this dismal effort, the team went on to place first in the next two legs (Ankara and Izmir) to reach within 7 points of the leaders Akay Team (from Istanbul) with only one leg to play. Meanwhile, the team also attended a private invitational tournament in Ankara and proceeded to beat Akay Team in the finals to add yet another trophy to their wall. In the final leg of the TPPL season, which was the international Bosphorus Cup held in Istanbul, the team made it past the preliminary elimination round to end up in the same group with Akay Team, No Name (another Turkish team from Istanbul) and TBA Hamburg of Germany. Due to the waning light, play proved difficult and the team came away with one win, one loss and one tie and proceeded in getting eliminated along with Akay Team and finishing the season in second place. The team also managed to make the trip over to neighboring Greece to attend the final leg of the Centurio Circuit held in Thessaloniki. This was the teams first international tournament experience and proved to be lucky as the team finished 3rd in Division 3, as the scoring system in the finals group prevented them from finishing any higher on the podium. 2007 The 2007 season started with plans to participate in the TPPL as well as 3-4 Centurio Circuit legs (as Division 2). Also, the team decided to change its name to Terrible Turks as part of its new aim at success abroad. The name Terrible Turks was decided upon because it was poking fun at the misconception in Europe and around the world that Turks are barbarians and murderers. It also fits in very well with the fashion in team names currently showing up in tournament circuits worldwide. Greece once again proved lucky for Terrible Turks, as the team proceeded to finish third once again, albeit in Division 2 at the Centurio Circuit Athens leg. Terrible Turks also reached the finals of the first leg of the TPPL 2007 season, although waning light conditions brought the final to a halt after only one game was played. The team had won the only game that was played as the remainder of the final was rescheduled to be played prior to the start of the preliminary elimination round at the next TPPL leg this season. Terrible Turks had an outstanding showing in the second leg of the Turkish Paintball League (TPL) in Istanbul, winning 13 of 15 games (7/7 prelims, 3/3 quarter, 2/3 semi) to reach the finals of the event leaps ahead of their nearest rivals. |
