Back into the swing of things once again after getting back from the NPPL out in Kansas City. It was my first visit to Kansas City and it was a pretty nice place and felt like a good choice of location for the NPPL to visit. The indoor center court was just the right size, some stadiums are too large and a paintball field and its spectators can look lost, but this arena was the perfect size for 1 field.
The pro prelims got underway on the Saturday with Rage having a tough ask due to them carrying over a suspension from the previous event in Boston, Rage are right on the bubble as far as relegation from the pro bracket goes and were unable to progress into Sunday and they now have a big ask to remain in the Pro bracket at the end of the season.
Joy had a decent showing in Boston but were looking to once again make the final for come Sunday, Joy took the first game from XSV the guys kept the momentum going and finished a tough group in second place. On the Sunday its always tight but with Dynasty not qualifying for Sunday we felt it would be a 3 horse race between Impact and the Ironmen and ourselves, It came down to our last game against Image with us needing a win to get a final 4 placing. After a tight game all of Image were finally eliminated but due to confusion regarding the flag or rather the lack of a flag in the Image flag station, the clock ran down with us unable to complete the flag hang costing us a place in the final 4.
With Joy unable to progress any further in the competition all we could do was reflect on what might have been and once again question the ability of some of the refs.
Overall I felt the Kansas City event was a good event but the quality of some of the refs and the decisions made does start to grate as you have to question how long the reffing standards can remain as low as they are.
Anyway its back to the UK and off to Paris next, Joy only need a final 4 finish to secure the series win, but the Swedish dynamite that is Stockholm Joy will be looking to finish the European Season on a high with a much wanted win over the Philly Dogs.
